VW Overheating Issue

VW Golf Overheating Issue

Volkswagen’s reputation is built from easy-to-use and precisely engineered machines. The Golf, now in its eighth generation, is one of the German brand’s most popular vehicles.

The engine, which is the beating heart of any Golf, is carefully designed and engineered for the perfect driving experience and contains thousands of parts.

Sometimes, they can cause you trouble if they break down or do not work correctly. For example, overheating can lead to lots of issues if it is not handled correctly.

When a VW Golf overheats, a warning light will illuminate on the dashboard.

This means that something should be done immediately to address the overheating problem, and if you ignore it, you could be left with costly repairs.

Our client recently visited us with an overheating issue in their Golf. Thankfully, at Fitch Autos, our team knew what to do immediately.

We are your local Volkswagen specialists with combined decades of experience and can repair yours expertly, the first time.

What Our Technicians Discovered

As each warning light is linked with a system, the reasons why they switch on vary. The problem must be diagnosed and treated straight away, otherwise, you may waste unnecessary time and money on repairs later down the line.

Luckily, our team at Fitch Autos were ready to assist.

We have vast knowledge, tools, and experience across all VW models. We can fix any issue with your Volkswagen, thanks to our dedicated team. As you are visiting a specialist, you also get the best value.

What more could you need?

Our in-depth 15-step diagnostics procedure helps get to the root cause quickly and makes sure nothing is left to chance as we inspect your vehicle. Removing guesswork, we aim to fix your car efficiently and on the first visit.

Our client recently visited our workshop, and our team began looking for the issue right away. They first test-drove the vehicle to confirm the overheating issue. After only 10-15 minutes of driving, the engine was already starting to overheat. Not ideal.

The temperature gauge quickly hit the red zone, despite a recent refill of coolant. Something was not right.

Taking the car to our workshop immediately was the right thing to do. Otherwise, overheating can cause catastrophic engine damage which includes melting seals and warping of the cylinder head.

Both engine block and cylinder head repairs are costly, but immediately addressing the overheating issue may prevent them.

Why Might My Volkswagen Golf Overheat?

The test drive on our customer vehicle confirmed the issue, now our team needed to inspect the Golf and diagnose issues with its cooling system. Initially, everything seemed okay, as there were no obvious leaks or issues.

We then performed a pressure test on the cooling system which concluded there were no leaks.

Tapping into their extensive know-how on VW engines, our team of specialists knew where to look next – the engine water pump.

We know that a common issue with VW engines involves the water pump impeller housing. When it fails, it reduces the cooling system’s effectiveness, and this can cause overheating over time. We believed this to be the issue which caused the car to overheat.

As soon as we lifted away the water pump from the engine, we could see the problem. The impeller control valve had malfunctioned, which prevented the coolant from flowing. Over time, this caused the Golf to overheat, and our customer could notice this on longer drives.

Solving the issue

As soon as we identified the problem, our team called the client to explain the issue and what we needed to do to fix it.

At Fitch Autos, our friendly team always reach out to our customers before any work takes place. We ensure you always know what is happening with your vehicle when it’s in our workshop.

We explained the issue and fixed it, and the customer was happy for us to proceed with the repair. So our team sourced a genuine VW replacement part and started work.

As we are your local VW specialist workshop, we excel in only using genuine, high-quality VW-recommended parts during our repairs and servicing. This ensures it is kept in peak health and nothing is left to chance.

When the water pump issue was being fixed, our technicians noticed the worn cambelt and due to the age of the vehicle, it needed replacing.

As we needed to remove the cambelt to replace the water pump, we thought it was an ideal opportunity to replace it too. This saved our client work in the future, and it was completed at a lower cost than a separate cambelt replacement.

Once we completed the work, our client was happy to see their pride and joy back in peak health. They were even more delighted that we replaced the cambelt and removed the hassle of arranging this separately at a later date.

At Fitch Autos we always provide the best quality fixes during your first visit. We possess the expertise to help you save time, money, and stress.
