Audi EML Repairs

Imagine driving your car, the sun is out, your favourite track is on the radio and BOOM, an engine repair light appears on your dashboard.

This is what happened to our recent customer. They brought their Audi SQ5 to our experts with an engine warning light. Our Audi specialists knew this needed to be fixed right away to prevent the problem from getting worse.

Warning lights are critical indicators of a possible engine or system malfunction, which can range from minor concerns to severe engine damage.

Luckily, our client didn’t wait for the issue to develop, they  chose to bring their Audi to our experts at Fitch Autos.

At Fitch Autos, we’re adept at identifying and fixing any issues during the first visit. You even get better than dealership value with us.

Getting to the Source of the Audi SQ5s Engine Light Issue

At Fitch Autos, our technicians are Audi specialists. We have a deep understanding of Audi’s intricate systems and we were confident we could solve the engine warning light issue for our client.

We’ve got decades of experience working on all Audi models and when combined with our 15-step diagnostic process, there isn’t a problem we can’t solve during your first visit.

During the initial assessment, our technicians found two critical error codes on the dashboard. To address the issues, our specialists used the ODIS diagnostic equipment to precisely decode the errors.

The diagnostic revealed two specific fault codes:

  • P200600 – This indicates that the intake manifold flap for airflow control on bank 1 was stuck in a closed position.
  • P200400 – The same intake manifold flap on bank 1 was stuck in the open position.

This pinpointed the root of the issue. Our technician then consulted the Audi Technical Product Information (TPI) system, effectively locating the necessary bulletin instructions to guide the repair process.

At Fitch Autos, we have access to the same technical information as the main Audi dealerships. This allows us to provide you with dealership-level servicing at a better-than-dealer value.

Providing the Fix

Upon validating the fault codes against the technical bulletin, our Audi experts proceeded to inspect the vehicle’s intake flap—a crucial component regulating airflow to the engine. During the inspection, it was clear that the flap was immobilised.

Now that the issue had been identified, our experts wanted to get to the root cause of the problem so it can be solved quickly.

The SQ5’s intake boost pipe was removed to allow our experts to inspect it closer using a borescope. This revealed a significant carbon deposit within the flap, preventing it from functioning as it should.

Carbon accumulation is a common byproduct of combustion that can be worsened by fast driving, something the SQ5 excels at. It was lucky the client brought their car in when they did.

To ensure there weren’t any other issues contributing to the engine warning lights, our experts performed a deeper inspection. Luckily, there was no further damage to the client’s Audi.

However, when it came to fixing the blockage in the flap, there was damage to the flap motor’s internals; this is something a clean wouldn’t fix, resulting in the Audi SQ5 needing a complete intake flap replacement.

Fixing The Audi SQ5 Engine Management Light

Our client was overjoyed to have their vehicle back in complete working condition without any warning lights.  They were even happier when they received the repair bill, which gave them better value than the main Audi dealership could.
