Mercedes C Class with multiple issues

Fixing a Mercedes C Class with multiple warning messages

When you’ve got a luxury vehicle like a Mercedes, the last thing you want is a fault to appear, which makes your vehicle underperform and lose its luxurious feel.

But imagine if you have not one but three issues with your Mercedes; talk about a nightmare.

When Mr P brought his Mercedes C Class to Fitch Autos, his washers weren’t working correctly, his AdBlue warning light had been on for a few weeks, and so had his engine management light.

Thankfully, he brought his C Class to us so our Mercedes experts could use their experience and technical know-how to solve all his vehicle’s faults.

What we found

During the initial inspection, it was clear that the C Class had some issues which needed addressing.

The AdBlue warning light also had the message “100 Miles To No Restart”. Mr P was lucky he’d brought his vehicle to us when he did. If he’d left it another week, his vehicle wouldn’t work.

As for the engine management light, it would require an in-depth inspection to figure out the root cause of the problem. And the same for the washers not working.

Luckily, our Mercedes specialists have the skills and experience to tackle any problems his vehicle had.

And, as your local independent Mercedes specialist, we have access to the same technical information as the main Mercedes dealership. You get dealership-level servicing for better value.

Once the faults had been visually confirmed, our expert technicians wanted to delve deeper to identify the root cause of each problem.

The Diagnosis

Before our Mercedes specialists consulted the Mercedes technical information, they performed a diagnostic evaluation to see what fault codes were present.

Five fault codes revealed themselves:

  1. P13E400 – The remaining driving distance is limited due to a malfunction in the AdBlue system.
  2. P229F8S – NOx sensor 2 (cylinder bank 1) has a malfunction. There is a signal above the permissible limit value.
  3. P2BA98S – The emission limit for the NOx concentration has been exceeded (AdBlue quality is too low). There is a signal above the permissible value.
  4. P13DF09 – Component fault – AdBlue system fault.
  5. 0181E64 – The sensor for the engine hood has a malfunction. There is an implausible signal.

I know what you’re thinking… It’s an information overload and a little confusing. But to our Mercedes specialists, these codes point them in the right direction.

Before our experts tackle each issue, a methodical plan is set out to identify the cause of each fault code.

At Fitch Autos, we use a 15-step diagnostic process to solve all issues during the first visit. You save time, stress, and money on repeat repairs.

Now our Mercedes specialists had an idea of what faults Mr P’s Mercedes had; they could begin testing specific areas of the vehicle.

The Mercedes dealer tool was used on each part of the AdBlue system, breaking it down into small, manageable tests to ensure nothing was overlooked.

Several tests took place, including:

  • AdBlue pump tests
  • Leak checks
  • Injector testing
  • NOx sensor assessments
  • SCR catalyst efficiency

All tests came back clear except for the Injector test, which indicated a block in the system.

Once the AdBlue fault had been identified, the Mercedes washers were checked. A blockage of the filter for the pump was found.

Fixing the Mercedes C Class

Now our experts had discovered the issues causing the fault codes, we informed Mr P of our findings. Together we discussed the faults and our recommended fixes.

At Fitch Autos, you’re always kept in the know and remain in complete control. We only start working on your Mercedes when you say so.

Mr P gave us the green light, and our Mercedes expert technicians got to work.

To fix the AdBlue system, the injector was cleaned using the correct methods, ensuring no damage occurred to the components. Thankfully, our experts understand the delicate cleaning procedure required and can perform the task without any issue.

Once cleaned, we tested the spray pattern and quality, and both returned optimal results.

To ensure there aren’t any other issues (and to solve the engine management light), Mr P’s Mercedes C Class received a software update for the AdBlue system.

Now the AdBlue system was back in peak condition; we proceeded to solve the washer blockage.

The washer pump filter was removed, cleaned, refitted, and filled with fresh water. It was more straightforward than the previous issue, yet it still required expert hands to ensure no damage happened to the components.

As the vehicle’s faults had been fixed, final diagnostic tests confirmed all fault codes had been addressed.

The Mercedes C Class was back in full working condition and had been fixed quicker than the main Mercedes dealership could.

Mr P was pleased to have his vehicle back with no warning messages lighting up his dashboard and working washers. He drove away with full confidence knowing his Mercedes was in a roadworthy condition.

Summary

Mr P brought his Mercedes C Class to Fitch Autos as his dashboard had an AdBlue warning message and several other problems. Luckily, our Mercedes experts were on hand to help.

After a thorough inspection using our 15-step diagnostic process and the Mercedes manufacturer information, we identified the root causes of the issues.

His vehicle had several blockages, one in the AdBlue injector and another in the washer filter.

Thankfully, our Mercedes specialists had dealt with these faults before and knew how to approach the issues.

Our expert technicians carefully cleaned the components, removing any signs of blockage, and ran various tests to confirm the problems had been solved.

Mr P was happy to have his Mercedes C Class back in complete working condition and in less time than the Mercedes dealership could have offered. He even got better-than dealership value. What more could you ask for?
