How to Solve Adblue System Fault in Audi A8
Before there were luxury SUVs, executives, celebrities, and anyone worth something used to prefer full-size luxury sedans. These cars had it all from comfort and features to performance and space. But since the 2010s, the trend has shifted in favour of SUVs, and more people are now interested in bigger vehicles.
However, thanks to a few individuals who haven’t forgotten the luxury sedan over the bulky SUV, the flame is still burning. Nowadays, you can find vehicles like the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series and Audi A8 on public roads, even after a slight drop in demand.
The exclusivity of the luxury sedan has been kept alive by some vehicle connoisseurs, such as our client Mr. H who owns an Audi A8.
The car is close to his heart and the crown jewel in his collection. So, you can imagine how he would have felt when his 2015 Audi A8 developed a fault.
Mr. H saw an Adblue system fault warning on the dash, which prompted him to book a slot at his usual garage. The technician saw a white crust on an area inside the engine bay along with the pretty evident warning message in the dash. They used this information to diagnose a pipe leak. Naturally, the client was charged for an Adblue pipe replacement and sent back believing that the new pipe would fix the issue.
Unfortunately, the warning message resurfaced on the Audi A8. As a result, our client had no other option but to drive to the Fitch Autos garage and put his trust in our expert Audi technicians.
Our senior Audi A8 specialist, Matt, accepted the challenge and took the client’s Audi inside the garage. He listened to the client’s complaint and assured him of a timely repair.
Faults Found
Matt started his work by performing a visual inspection of the Audi A8. The client or possibly the previous technician could have missed something related to the issue. So, our Audi specialist wasted no time in checking every nook and cranny. Luckily, there was nothing else out of the ordinary, except for the obvious issue at hand.
The Adblue system warning could indicate an issue in any area of the component. It was Matt’s job to pinpoint the location and the sub-component where the problem was hiding. So, without wasting an extra second, our Audi specialist initiated the 15-step diagnostic procedure to try and find a credible solution.
Diagnostic Procedure
The in-depth diagnostic process is used by all the technicians at Fitch Autos. That’s because the procedure allows our specialists to find the root cause of the problem and apply a solution. On top of that, the 15-steps ensure we don’t miss a thing during the diagnosis. No issue goes unnoticed, and our technicians hit the spot every time!
Matt did the same, as he started with the fault code scan. He used the ODIS software to find the relevant fault codes, affecting the Adblue system. The following turned up on the scan:
- P13DF09 – Adblue system malfunction
The error code opened up the scenario for Matt. The scan revealed that there was a component fault in the system. In other words, something had malfunctioned, which was affecting the working of the entire system.
The new information also disproved the previous technician’s diagnosis.
Once that was out of the way, our Audi specialist could focus on finding the component troubling the Adblue system. Matt performed a complete Adblue system test, using the manufacturer-recommended VAS 6352A test kit.
The first task was to test the quality of the Adblue component installed in the Audi A8. Luckily, that was perfectly fine and our technician didn’t see the need to explore the part any further.
After that followed a pressure test, which is an absolute necessity. Without the recommended pressure, the Adblue system would fail and cause your car problems. Fortunately, Matt found that to be well within the recommended range (4.5 bar – 5.5 bar).
The only thing left now was to check the Adblue injector, which is arguably the most vital part of the system. Our Audi technician checked all aspects of the injection system. He looked for leaks, the system’s pressure, the injector’s spray pattern, and the quality of Adblue thrown out into the Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system.
Interestingly, the injector failed all the tests and proved that there was indeed a fault in the Adblue component. The injector was blocked completely and no liquid was passing through.
Now, the only thing left was to replace the injector and recheck the car through ODIS to confirm the solution.
Solving The Problem
Our Audi specialist removed the faulty injector, installed a new one, and added a brand-new seal to the mix. Once the components were installed, Matt started the car and checked for a warning in the dash. Luckily, nothing new had popped up on the system, which meant that the issue was fixed. But before finalising the car, our Audi expert had to perform a road test.
The only thing that could verify the fix was a test drive. Matt took the car out on a run and tested the workings of the Adblue system. Luckily, everything turned out to be working fine.
The only thing left now was to give back the car to Mr. H, who was anxiously waiting for an update. Our lead Audi technician gave him the good news and a delighted Mr. H came to Fitch Autos almost immediately to pick up his car.
He thanked Matt for the service and vowed to bring all his other vehicles only to Fitch Autos in the future.
